Staying Inside The Box

April 27, 2012 § Leave a comment

The “Growing Up Hidden” essay gave insight to what some people go through everyday of their lives. Growing up has so many different expectations for young children. There are many pressures on different achievements and ways of life. And then to add telling your family you are gay, can really affect a child. To be told you are “too masculine” to participate in an activity is absurd. Who creates these norms? Who says what is too much and too little? Our society does, but why do we listen? I applaud those who are brave enough to step out from the social norms and do, say, or dress in an way that they want.
