Just Walk On By

I thought that this essay, was very interesting and a unique way for a man to try and come up with a way to seem less intimidating.  I think that although Bent Staples address his issues of walking in the dark behind women, and having to whistle is a creative way to put women at ease, I think the bigger question is why is it that he has to whistle some classical music typically composed by a white person.  I think that with any challenge people will come up with some way to get over the hurdle and I think that this really helped him as an athletic black man walking at night put women at ease that everything was going to be fine and he was not somebody that they needed to worry about.  I really enjoyed this essay and his approach to the problems he faced in his day to day life.  I think that it was interesting to see some issues that men faced, and seeing a different side and being able to walk in his shoes to see some of the challenges he faced.
