Gender Reconstruction

This essay shed so much light on the extent that people will go to be “normal”. But as Prof. David said, what is normal? I couldn’t believe that parents would just go along with what doctors say just because they think the child will be better off. I understand that parents worry and constantly want the best for the children, but this? The example that really stood out to me was of the 12 year old girl who was already experimenting with her sexuality and found herself deprived of that thanks to what her parents considered wrong, ugly or abnormal. The worse part about it is that the child doesn’t even have a say; the parents don’t even try to explain or care how the child will feel… that bugs me. Most of the time we feel as though children don’t know much, but they feel just as much as we do and are much smarter than they seem. Let them have a say on what should or could be done to their body. After all, it is theirs.
